pop century review at disney world

Disney’s Pop Century Resort is one of the most popular value resorts at Disney World because of its budget friendly room rates and proximity to the theme parks. Today I am sharing my Pop Century review and if you should plan a stay for your next Disney trip.

Pop Century is a large resort divided into sections themed to different decades. There is a 50’s, 60s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s section of the resort.

It is a motel style resort. All room entrances lead to the outside with 3 levels in each building. The theme is nostalgic with large props and bright colors throughout.

In the 80’s section there is a giant sized rubics cube. In the 60’s section there is a life size Baloo and Mowgli. The 50’s section has giant bowling pins. Be sure to check out the giant sized Mickey phone in the 70’s section.

If you are want to stay close to dining and bus transportation you should request the 60s section. We recently stayed at Pop Century and thought it was a great value and perfect for our Disney trip.

Disney Pop Century Resort Review & Recap

I like to start my reviews with a quick recap of our stay and my opinion before I go into details on what the resort is all about.

Pop Century is a very popular value resort because of its location, updated rooms, and mid-range pricing. For our family of 5 we booked connecting rooms and this resort is a great option when visiting Disney with teens.

I thought the Everything Pop dining area had plenty of options for our family and we loved being close to the Disney Skyliner for easy transportation to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot.

As a family of 5 we do not fit in a standard room so we had to opt for connecting rooms. Connecting rooms are a great choice for families of more than 4. Often the cost of two rooms at a value resort are less than a standard room that fits 5.

It is always a good idea to compare prices. There are family suites at the Art of Animation resort that you may find are a better deal if you are traveling with a group of 5 or more.

Pop Century Resort Rooms

Pop Century guest rooms fit a family of four. There are 2 queen beds or a king bed. The queen rooms have a murphy bed that can fold up for a sitting area.

If you want a room close to the pool or with a view consider booking a preferred room. To be honest I don’t find much value spending more money on the view at Pop Century but you might and it is an option.

The Pop Century hotel rooms are 260 square feet but the pull-down bed is a nice feature to help maximize the space during your stay.

There is a small mini-fridge and coffee maker in the room. As well as storage space under the bed and in the closet area.

As I mentioned earlier Pop Century fits 4 and does not have family suites. During my research of our upcoming trip I started running some numbers to see what would be best for our Disney trip as a family of five.

Currently Pop Century has rates at $155.00 a night. If a family of five books 2 connecting rooms that will be around $310.00 a night. A moderate resort that fits five starts around $270.00 a night.

With connecting rooms you have 4 queen beds and two bathrooms. If you are traveling with teens or adults I would highly suggests connecting rooms. The space if worth the difference in cost.

We’ve also done connecting rooms at Disney’s All Star Sports and it was less expensive than a moderate resort. We loved having more space, 4 queen beds, and 2 bathrooms.

The All Star resorts are the least expensive value resorts on Disney property. The family suites at Art of Animation are often $400+ and they fit up to 6 people. Always compare prices when planning your trip.

Average Nightly Rate

The average nightly rate at Pop Century varies depending on the time you visit (Holidays are busier than off-season) and special offers. Typically you can find Pop Century for $160.00 a night but this can change. Check latest prices for Pop Century or reach out to our travel partner Nikki for latest special offers.

Pop Century Resort Dining

Dining at Pop Century is located at Everything POP Shopping and Dining. It is cafeteria style dining with a lot of options. They offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks & desserts.

Guests can also order pool side at the Petals Pool Bar as well as order take-out pizza. I like that there are a lot of options. I can get grilled salmon and vegetables and the kids can get spaghetti and meatballs. Most guests will find something that fits there needs.

Pop Century Resort Pools

Hippy Dippy Pool is the main pool located at the 60s area of the resort. There is also a small splash pad for younger ones.

There are also two pools at the resort. At the 90’s section and the 50’s section. The 90’s has the computer pool and the 50’s has the bowling pool.

These pools are basic but can often be less crowded than the main pool. There are not water slides at the Pop Century pools.

The 90s pool was less busy during the day and we spent our pool time there.

Around the Resort

Guests staying at Pop Century have complimentary transportation around Disney property, free parking at the resort, daily activities, an arcade, and a walkway to the Art of Animation Resort.

Transportation

Pop Century offers bus transportation to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney Water Parks, and Disney Springs. The Disney Skyliner is a gondola transportation system to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

There is not bus transportation to Epcot or Hollywood Studios when the Skyliner is in operation.

Guests headed to Hollywood Studios will have to transfer to the Hollywood Studios Skyliner at the main Caribbean Beach station.

Daily Activities

Most of the main recreation at Pop Century is located at the Hippy-Dippy pool or the main lobby building.

When guests check-in they are given a daily schedule of what to expect for the week of your stay. There are games and trivia by the pool as well as arts and craft activities.

Most nights there is a Movie under the stars night. The movies change nightly. Your recreation guide will tell you where and when the activities will be.

Art of Animation Bridge

When Pop Century was first built phase 2 was scrapped and became Art of Animation. Art of Animation is a wonderfully themed resort to Disney’s animated classics. It is also the most expensive of the value resorts.

Guests staying at Pop Century can cross the bridge to Art of Animation, it is located at the shared Skyliner station, and explore the resort.

Guests can’t use the pool but it is a fun resort to walk around and explore. We had so much fun taking pictures with Cars, Nemo, The Little Mermaid and The Lion King photo ops.

Final Thoughts

I really like Pop Century for its close proximity to the parks. It is one of the more updated value resorts and is on the Disney Skyliner making it a budget friendly resort choice for most families.

Dining is good but they do not offer any sit-down options. If you are looking for quick food because you are spending most of your time at the parks Pop Century is a great choice.

The pools are basic and do not include waterslides like the moderate and deluxe resorts but if you are spending more time at the parks this may not be a priority.

The décor is very bright and busy. Most families with young kids will enjoy the theme.

The rooms are recently refurbished and are nicely decorated. These recent refurbishments along with the addition of the Skyliner has made Pop Century one of the most popular value resorts.

Disney’s Pop Century is a great value resort option for guests looking for a place to rest their heads while they spend their days at the Disney theme parks.
